Language Patterns

Ordering with 我要 / 我想要

Use 我要 (ngo5 jiu3) for direct orders, or 我想要 (ngo5 soeng2 jiu3) for politer requests. Follow with the item.
我要一碟炒飯。
ngo5 jiu3 jat1 dip2 caau2 faan6.
I want one plate of fried rice.
我想要凍奶茶。
ngo5 soeng2 jiu3 dung3 naai5 caa4.
I would like an iced milk tea.

Intensifier 好 + adjective

Place 好 (hou2) before an adjective to mean very. Double it for emphasis: 好好食 = really delicious.
呢度好好食！
ni1 dou6 hou2 hou2 sik6!
This place is really delicious!
杯茶好熱。
bui1 caa4 hou2 jit6.
The tea is very hot.

Use 仲要唔要 (zung6 jiu3 m4 jiu3) to ask if someone wants anything else. Answer with 仲要... or 唔使喇.

Measure words for food: 杯, 碟, 碗, 個

Different containers use different measure words. 杯 for drinks, 碟 for plates, 碗 (wun2) for bowls, 個 for individual items.
